Adventures in Asia

by Greg & Francie

Not all kittens and rainbows

I know that Greg likes to taunt all you people that are in the freezing cold states working, but just so you know – Thailand isn’t ALL kittens & rainbows.  I’ve spent the last 24 hours in a Benadryl induced daze because of dozens of painfully itchy bites on my back and ankles :-(.  We think maybe it is bed bugs.  Or it could be Cutaneous Larva Migrans, caused by dog hookworm, but that is much less likely.  In any case, I’m glad we’re leaving Koh Phi Phi tomorrow morning for Koh Lanta!  I have to go now and apply more anti-itch cream.

  2. Hi Francie and Greg:

The pictures are spectacular — but the bites don’t sound like any fun… Aunt Mary (who is visting Libby and I today in Austin) wants to know if you ate any eel from the Eel Man?

  3. No eating of eels. the market was a little hard to take because of the beef section that was close to the seafood section.

maybe next time we go back to bangkok!

  4. Hey! What happened to the dilemma of underwear vs. t-shirts? We have seen Fran-Z sporting more than one bikini, numereous tank tops and various beachwear. Does going commando leave that much more room in the backpack? 😛

  5. In transcontinental sympathy with my itching sis, I have contracted a case of eczema (directly related to freezing cold, dry air in NYC and the stress of overwork.) One possible treatment is exposure to sunlight. I tried waving my itchy red arms back and forth next to your various beach photos, but to no avail 😦

  6. To smiley: Rather than leaving clothes at home, I decided to pack ‘small’ clothes, such as bikinis (they double as a shirt and shorts!), and underwear that consists of a small triangle of fabric and a piece of string. Problem solved!

To Joanna: Thank you for your sympathy and I’m sorry to hear about your skin condition. I think that for the sake of your health you should immediately take 2 weeks off of work and come meet greg & I in thailand.
