Adventures in Asia

by Greg & Francie

We made it to Yangon, Burma, the land of Star cola and Crusher (local soda brands). Coca Cola here is very expensive we learned because it can only be obtained on the black market! ha.

Starting on April 13th is the Burmese new year celebration known as the water festival. It involves parades and lots of people running around in the street dousing each other with buckets and super soakers (apparently these are obtained on the black market as well). This may also make getting out of town a little difficult since most transportation is either booked or ‘on holiday’.

By the way, Gmail is one of the many sites banned by the government, so Greg and I won’t be responding to all your emails for a few weeks. Supposedly backdoor sites exist but we don’t know what those are yet…

Yangon has also been known recently as Rangoon but now it is Yangon which just reminds Greg of the They Might Be Giants‘ song about Instanbul and Constantinople.
