Hong Kong Escalator

There are a famous series of escalators on Hong Kong island that are half a mile long and go up a series of steep hills.  This escalator is in the ‘mid-levels’ and people use it every day to go to work.  The escalator switches the direction at various times of the day (morning goes down and evening goes up).

It is a pretty cool section of Hong Kong and it goes up about 450 feet.  This part of Hong Kong island wasn’t very popular or populated before it was built.  It is also featured very briefly in ChungKing Express (its outside Tony Leung’s apartment window).

June 21, I am adding one more picture of the escalator or as I saw recently–the travelator.

And here is the unique sign posting that makes you aware that you are at the escalator.
