Palace of Scrupulous Behavior anyone?

To go along with “Tiger Leaping Gorge” as more examples of how colorful some Chinese names are, here are some names from the Forbidden city:

Palace of Earthly Tranquility
Hall of Literary Glory (doesn’t that sound so much more interesting than “reading room” or “library?)
Hall of Middle Harmony
Hall of Preserving Harmony
Hall of Supreme Harmony (I think you use these last 3 rooms in order as you make forward progress in your harmony)
Palace of Heavenly Purity
Hall of Mental Cultivation (I need to spend some time in here)
Hall of Character Cultivation
Hall of Central Extremity (I’m not even sure what that means)
Hall of Happiness and Longevity
Hall of Military Prowess
Hall of Peaceful Benignity
Well of the Concubine

and my favorite, the Palace of Scrupulous Behavior!

  1. Sounds like the Lake Wobegone church:
    Our Lady of Perpetual Responsibility….
And a belated Happy Birthday to Greg. Now that I know the date I will practice scrupulous behavior and perpetual responsibility and remember it next time. Maybe.
