Lame Beijing Opera

I had high hopes for the Beijing Opera. Well, it was very disappointing. This doesn’t mean that Beijing Opera sucks-it just means that all we could find was a sucky sucky performance of Bejing Opera.

We tried to go see a performance in the courtyard of Prince Gong’s Residence (The Grand Opera House) but unfortunately they weren’t having shows this week. Instead we went to the Liyuan Theater.

I really wouldn’t recommend this–the singing was definitely interesting but the sets looked like a high school performance. Well, to be exact there were no sets and the stage looked bare like a high school that couldn’t afford to do anything. There were also lots of mic issues. Sometimes the mic went out and sometimes you could here attendants radios over the performance.

Tourist trap. You have been warned. Here is one picture.

  1. That is very disappointing. You all have done so well at seeing incredible places, people, and events — oh well — it was bound to happen.
